'Circling the wagons' for those I think would be interested in working
together on this but please distribute further in the Kantara community WGs
to catch anyone I may have inadvertently missed.

Carmen Smiley (many of you know and thanks again for the intro a few months
back Catherine) has asked me to present at an ONC workshop on August 31st that
will inform ONC's response to Congress on September 4th. Those of you on
the HIAWG call last week heard this from Carmen herself.

The session and report (with our written comments) is dedicated to the
creation/promulgation of a unique patient identity in the US, so any
recommendations that we have for Congress would be appreciated.

Presentation is required to cover:

   - The Kantara Trust Framework
   - Conformance Testing
   - Importance of standards
   - Anything else we feel is relevant ..

(so you can sense what they want from us ).

Did I hear somewhere that FIRE was holding the pen on these? Or is that an
individual endeavour?
We do need someone to be collating Kantara's collected comments into a
submission. I don't have a sense of the length and detail of that but for
Congress folks it might necessarily be short and simple,

The ask:

I am asking for your ideas as to what you would like to see in the
presentation, (provided they sit within the brief given). Input by Monday
August 24th please.

I am asking for your written comments on the subject, and for someone to
act as editor to fold into a cohesive story, as many of those comments as
possible. The comments deadline is September 4th so I think we aim for
August 24th to start collating so we see a draft around August 31.

This topic may find its way onto WG agendas for wider discussion if WG
Chairs can give leeway for it inside their already busy schedules.

What say ye?

Thanking you in advance.

Kind regards
Carmen is leading a public working session on Patient Identity and Patient
Matching on August 31, 2020 from 9:30am-4:30pm ET focusing primarily on
privacy & security, identity & matching standards, research and analysis,
with some advocacy and innovation. She wants to hear Kantara's perspective.
For more information and access to the Appropriations Agreement and I think
I saw a short reference to it on page 123:
ONC's first public working session webinar that informed the report
(Catherine was presenting):

In addition, she asks that Kantara please submit comments with
recommendations on identity and matching in the context of the first US
national unique patient identifier. A bill just passed the House to lift
the prohibition on spending HHS funds on the promulgation of a UPI. While
awaiting the Senate’s response, at least there's an inkling that we are
inching closer and closer.
